A BSc (Hons) Events Management degree is a business degree applied to a specific and unforgiving industry. Events either happen on the day or they do not, and that deadline discipline shapes the whole course. You will study budgeting, marketing, logistics, risk and health and safety, sponsorship and stakeholder management, and you will apply all of it to real events rather than to case studies alone.
Most UK courses require you to plan and deliver actual events as assessed work. That is the part employers care about, because this is an industry that hires on demonstrated delivery rather than on grades.
What you study
Three years, four with a placement. Live event projects usually run in every year of the degree.
- Year one: the events industry and its sectors, event planning and operations, marketing principles, finance for events, and health, safety and risk.
- Year two: event design and experience, sponsorship and fundraising, venue and facilities management, project management, and legal and licensing requirements.
- Year three: strategic event management, festivals and major events, sustainability in events, international conference and exhibition management, and a dissertation or major live project.
Entry requirements from Nepal
Requirements differ between universities and can move from one intake to the next, so read the following as the usual range rather than a guarantee. We check your documents against each university current criteria before anything is submitted.
- Academic: +2, A-Levels or IB at roughly 60 per cent and above, with an international foundation year available to students below that. No specific +2 subject is required. Evidence of organising anything, a college programme, a sports tournament, a community event, genuinely helps a personal statement here.
- English: IELTS 6.0 overall with no band below 5.5 is the usual requirement. Many of our partner universities also accept PTE Academic, Duolingo, or a Medium of Instruction letter from Tribhuvan, Pokhara or Kathmandu University. - Study gap: most universities accept a gap, commonly up to five years and sometimes up to ten, as long as you can account for the time.
- Finance: the student visa requires evidence of your first year tuition plus living costs, currently 1,529 pounds a month for London and 1,171 pounds a month elsewhere, held for nine months. Our page on UK university fees for international students sets out the detail.

Progression to a specialist masters is common, and international tourism planning and management is a natural pairing for students who intend to work in a destination economy.
Realistic expectations
Two things are true about this industry and we would rather say both. It is genuinely enjoyable work with a low barrier to entry for anyone willing to start at the bottom. It also involves irregular hours, weekend and evening work, and modest starting pay, and the entry level is crowded because the job sounds appealing.
The students who succeed treat every placement, volunteer shift and student union event as portfolio building. For students planning to return to Nepal, the growth in conferences, destination weddings and organised tourism events makes this a more commercially serious choice than it first appears.
