BSc (Hons) International Business

A BSc (Hons) International Business degree trains you to work for organisations that trade, hire and compete across borders. Instead of studying management inside one national market, you look at what changes when a company crosses a border: how strategy, marketing, finance and supply chains have to be rebuilt for a different legal system, a different currency and a different set of customer expectations.

It is consistently one of the most popular undergraduate choices among the Nepalese students Real Dreams sends to the UK, and the reason is practical rather than fashionable. The skills travel. A graduate can build a career in Britain, come back to Kathmandu, or join a multinational anywhere in between without having to retrain.

What you study

Most UK universities run this as a three-year honours degree. Adding a paid placement year makes it four, and we generally push students towards the placement version because a year of real UK work experience changes how a CV reads.

  • Year one lays the foundations: principles of management, financial and management accounting, marketing, business economics, and an introduction to the global business environment.
  • Year two moves into the international layer: international trade and finance, cross-cultural management, global supply chain and operations, international marketing, and business research methods.
  • Year three is where you specialise. Typical options include international strategy, emerging markets, global human resource management, international business law, and export and import management, alongside a dissertation or consultancy project.

Assessment is a mix of exams, reports, group consultancy briefs and presentations. The group work is deliberate: multinational teams are the point of the degree, and UK employers ask about it at interview.

Entry requirements from Nepal

Requirements vary between universities and can change from one intake to the next, so treat the figures below as the usual range rather than a promise. We check your documents against each university current criteria before we submit anything.

  • Academic: +2, A-Levels or IB with roughly 60 per cent and above for direct entry into year one. Students who fall short are usually offered an international foundation year, which adds twelve months and then feeds into the same degree.
  • English: IELTS 6.0 overall with no individual band below 5.5 is the most common undergraduate requirement. A number of our partner universities also accept PTE Academic, Duolingo or a Medium of Instruction letter from Tribhuvan, Pokhara or Kathmandu University. Our IELTS score comparison shows how the tests line up, and we list the routes that do not need IELTS.
  • Study gap: gaps are accepted by most universities, commonly up to five years and in some cases up to ten, provided you can account for the time.
  • Finance: for the student visa you must evidence your first year tuition plus living costs. Current maintenance rates are 1,529 pounds a month for London and 1,171 pounds a month elsewhere, held for nine months. See our page on UK university fees for international students.

Where the degree leads

International business is a broad degree, which is a strength if you use it deliberately and a weakness if you do not. Graduates most often move into:

  • Export, import and trade operations, including freight forwarding and customs
  • International sales and business development
  • Supply chain, procurement and logistics
  • Marketing and brand management for companies selling into more than one country
  • Graduate management schemes at banks, retailers and manufacturers
  • Family businesses in Nepal that are moving into import, export or franchising

UK graduates on a student visa can normally apply for the Graduate Route, which gives two years to work in the UK after finishing an undergraduate or masters degree without needing a sponsor. Many of our students use that window to convert a placement or graduate scheme into a sponsored Skilled Worker role.

Why Nepalese students choose international business

Nepal economy runs on cross-border flows, from remittances and imports to tourism and the trekking supply chain, so the subject matter is immediately recognisable rather than abstract. Two things are worth thinking about before you commit.

First, this degree overlaps heavily with business management and business studies. If you are certain you want the international angle, take it; if you are not, a general business degree with international modules may leave more doors open. We will talk you through the difference honestly, because picking the wrong one of the two is one of the more common mistakes we see.

Second, the placement year matters more for this subject than most. Employers want evidence you can actually operate across cultures, not just that you studied it.
