Study in the UK without IELTS from Nepal
Nepalese students may be able to receive a UK university offer without submitting IELTS, but this does not mean that English-language ability is ignored. The acceptable evidence depends on the university, course, study level and the method recorded by the student sponsor.
Alternatives a university may consider
- another English-language test accepted by the university
- an interview or internal English assessment for an eligible degree-level course
- evidence that a previous eligible qualification was taught in English
- a recognised English-medium qualification or school result, where the university’s published policy allows it
- a pre-sessional English or pathway programme
Not every university accepts every alternative. A Nepalese applicant should never assume that an English-medium letter or a particular Grade 12 English mark will automatically replace IELTS.
Admission and Student visa requirements are different
A university decides whether an applicant meets its academic and English-language admission requirements. UK Visas and Immigration decides the Student visa application. For degree-level study, the required English standard is normally equivalent to CEFR level B2; below degree level it is normally B1.
A higher education provider with a track record of compliance can assess English itself for eligible degree-level study. The provider must record the assessment method and required level on the Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS). If the relevant rules require a Secure English Language Test, the applicant must use an approved test and provider.
What Nepalese applicants should check
- Open the official course page and check the English-language section for your intake.
- Ask whether your Nepalese qualification, English-medium study or proposed alternative test is accepted.
- Request written confirmation of any waiver or internal assessment.
- Check that the offer conditions and CAS accurately record how English was assessed.
- Use current GOV.UK Student visa guidance before submitting the visa application.
Can Real Dreams help?
Real Dreams can help Nepalese applicants compare courses and identify universities that may consider appropriate alternatives to IELTS. The university makes the admission decision and UK Visas and Immigration makes the visa decision. No adviser can guarantee an English waiver, admission or a visa.
Requirements can change. Contact Real Dreams with your academic documents, study level and preferred course so an adviser can check the current university policy before you apply.
