Graduate Route & Funding Changes – UK Study Update
The UK Home Office has announced a few immigration updates for international students planning to study or stay in the United Kingdom. These updates follow the Proposed May 2025 White Paper and will take effect between November 2025 and January 2027. Here’s what you need to know
Updated Maintenance Fund Requirement – Effective from 11 November 2025
From 11 November 2025, students applying for a UK Student Visa will need to show increased financial proof to cover their living costs during their studies.
- £1,529 per month – if studying in London (for up to 9 months)
- £1,171 per month – if studying outside London (for up to 9 months)
- Accommodation offset limit: £1,529
These revised financial thresholds ensure students can meet UK living costs. Make sure your bank statements and financial documents meet these updated requirements before applying for your visa.
Graduate Route Changes – Effective from 1 January 2027
From 1 January 2027, updated rules will apply to Graduate Route Visa applications, the visa that allows international students to stay and work in the UK after completing their studies.
- Bachelor’s & Master’s graduates: 18 months post-study stay (previously 2 years).
- PhD / Doctoral graduates: 3 years post-study stay (unchanged).
These changes apply only to Graduate Route applications submitted on or after January 1, 2027. Students who receive their Graduate Route visa before that date will remain under the current terms.
